Expelled as "creationist porn"? right-wing columnist as past his stale date?

Commentator John Derbyshire, who admits he hasn't seen the "dang thing" says that Expelled is creationist porn nonetheless. His piece reflects minimal engagement with the facts of the controversy – but given his method, he has little choice in the matter. Bill Dembski has noted elsewhere that Derb has made a point of not knowing what he is talking about on this subject for years.

The trouble is, the audience for that sort of thing is shrinking. More and more people want real answers now. And even opponents of Expelled - those who know what they are talking about - know enough to take it seriously.

And here is Derbyshire attempting to trash David Berlinski , and here is Berlinski shutting him down in a few words. For example: "A movie is not required to make Richard Dawkins look foolish."

A pity, because Derb can be reasonably clever when he takes the trouble to understand his topic. But for many people, thinking that Darwin might have been wrong on the most fundamental point is too big a risk.
