TV science demo you won't see this year: The limits to Darwinian evolution
Recently, nationally syndicated TV Talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live was looking for a teacher for science demos:

... someone who is passionate and knowledgeable about science who would feel comfortable taking Jimmy through multiple unusual and entertaining science experiments for a new segment that they're hoping to have on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Ideally, if they find the right personality for the segment, they would like to make this a recurring bit.
Anyone who is interested is welcome to submit a brief video introducing himself/herself, sharing some background information, mentioning a few potential experiments, and explaining why he/she would be a good candidate for this segment. The video should be no longer than 5 minutes and can be submitted via e-mail at ftsjkl@gmail.com or mailed directly to the address below.
Deadline for submission: June 2, 2008.

This comes from a Tara Varilek at Jimmy Kimmel Live in Hollywood.
Biology prof Ralph Seelke, at University of Wisconsin-Superior, suggested a demnstratn of the Edge of Evolution for the adoring science fans - what evolutin by natural selection can do and what it can't do:
Here we have 40 billion bacteria on a plate. We see if they can evolve the ability to make tryptophan. It takes TWO steps.
Here we have another 40 billion bacteria on a plate. We see if they can evolve the ability to make tryptophan. It takes ONE step.
Two days later:
Wow! The plate where evolution needed to take one step is LOADED with evolved bacteria.
AWWW- the plate where evolution needed to take two steps…. None there. Sigh.
Stay tuned for MORE exciting adventures with EVOLUTION IN ACTION!!!!!
Long silence falls. Oops, wait. This is not Politically Correct Popular Science. Yes, it happens to be correct, but not Politically Correct, which is what matters. So ...
Stop! Wait! Where are you goons taking that science teacher?! Unhand him!!
Yes, yes, Seelke is one of the evil morons who accepts the evidence for design in life, so of course bad stuff would probably happen to him if he tried to demo on that show.
By the way, here's a long review of Mike Behe's review I did of Mike Behe's Edge of Evolution, whch talks about the limits of Darwinian evolution in more detail. And here's a sample chapter.
